Roleplaying / The Saga of Wyldhaunt and Amberguard
« Last post by wyldhaunt on October 29, 2023, 08:51:34 pm »
This thread will be a place to post my character bios and ongoing ersatz story between my characters, focusing on my namesake main (Wyldhaunt) and his nemesis group (currently "fronted" by Amberguard).

To start, here is Wyldhaunt's current bio:

Report: Wyldhaunt (originaly Wyldhunt) is an older villain plaguing this region. He is known as a Trow, originally from the Orkney Isles, who came to the Rogue Isles soon after Lord Recluse starting looking for a "Chosen One." Wyldhaunt's motives are not clear: he's fairly iconoclastic, and has no stated plans, instead seeming to just foment chaos and destruction. The old Wyldhunt was a solo brute at first; later he worked mostly through beast followers. Just after the Great Silence, he re-appeared with his new moniker, and seems more ghostly than before. This time, he had been found working mostly behind the scenes, creating Gnawt and Smelt, and providing safe harbor for other villains, such as Vespera and So Flow the Tears (the former hero). Most recently, he is again taking a more personal interest in villainy, especially in luring others to the "redside." We must watch this resurgence more closely, as it may prove much more destructive than any previous.

Player Help/Guides / Rotating Auto-Powers Using Bind Files
« Last post by Sky-Forge on October 27, 2023, 03:46:00 pm »
This is an idea I got several years ago from a comment in the HC forums, which surprisingly did not garner a lot of responses despite how useful it is (I suspect that could also be because the post assumed some general knowledge of bindload files, and was buried within another thread), but all credit to the user "rmancu" there for this idea. I've revised the approach a little to fit my own needs, and have been using this ever since - it has made some builds SO much easier to play.

So what does this do? The idea is to essentially have two (or any number) of auto-powers that will automatically rotate. For example, you have a Shield toon, and want to have both Hasten and Active Defense auto-fire; or you have a Dominator and want to have Hasten and Domination on auto. This is something people have asked for many times in the past, and there have understandably been concerns about how it could be abused for AFK farming. That is the catch with this approach - it does NOT do anything for you if you are AFK: you have to be actively playing in order for this to work (which you'll see below).

So how does it work? This binds the toggling of your auto-powers to the movement keys (WASD) and the 1-0 keys. So as long as you're either moving around, or using the number keys, your auto-powers will continue to rotate (which is why this can't be utilized for AFK farming).

How to Setup the Bind files:
Each power you want included in the rotation will need its own bind file. These are just text files, and I like to put them into subfolders within the binds directory. In this example, we're going to set Hasten and Active Defense as our two rotating auto-powers. Here is an example of the two bind files that will be needed (you can copy these and create your own, otherwise I've attached them as well):

B1.txt
Code: [Select]
w "+forward$$powexecauto Hasten$$bindloadfilesilent "D:\CoH Rebirth\data\binds\Zalenia\B2.txt""

9 "powexecslot 9$$powexecauto Active Defense$$bindloadfilesilent "D:\CoH Rebirth\data\binds\Zalenia\B1.txt""

Just to explain what's happening in these files - each of the WASD and 1-0 keys are assigned with their default behavior (so beware if you have remapped those keys to do something else), then it sets the auto-power, then finishes with loading the next bind file. The next bind files does the same, except assigns a different auto-power, then loops back to loading the first file. I have mine setup so that each character has their own folder within the binds directory (the original approach from rmancu used the default binds directory, but I wanted to have subfolders for each alt to have their own setup), so in this case, "Zalenia" is the character name, and she has her own folder within the binds directory.

The file location here is important - you will need to make sure the file paths used within the bind files match the folder structure of where you are placing these files. Anywhere in these examples where you see "D:\CoH Rebirth\data\binds\Zalenia\" - that is my local file path, so you will need to update it to your own local file location.

Once you have those bind files setup with their respective folder, all you need to do is load the bind files in game. It doesn't matter which one you load, since they cycle between each other, but I typically just load the first one. In game, use this command (adjusting to use your own local file path of course) to load the bind files:
/bind_load_file "D:\CoH Rebirth\data\binds\Zalenia\B1.txt"

Then that should be it! Pressing the WASD or 1-0 keys should now be rotating between the two powers used in the bind files. This can be used for any powers that can be set to autocast, and additional bind files can be added as well. Although do note that, the more files you add, the more powers it now has to rotate between, which means they may not always fire off as soon as the power is recharged, but rather when it has a chance to cycle back to that power. I have done up to 4, but I typically try to keep it down to 2 or 3 for most characters.

Anyways, I hope this helps someone! I've been using this for years now and it has definitely increased my enjoyment of certain characters/builds. I'm sure there are additional things that could be added or improved in this method, so if you find any other cool use cases, feel free to share!

Roleplaying / Roleplayer Halloween Meet and Greet in Pocket D's Tiki Lounge!
« Last post by Ry on October 25, 2023, 07:56:04 am »
Hi gang! I hope you're all doing well!

Lately, I've been playing City of Heroes on the Rebirth server and having a BLAST, so I thought I'd give something back to the community as an RPer and host a meet and greet at Pocket D's tiki lounge this weekend! Here are the details: On October 29th, Sunday, at 6 pm EST I will be hosting an OOC Halloween Party and meet-and-greet targetted mainly for Roleplayers to get the RP community started up on Rebirth by doing a good old-fashioned BRAINSTORM. This event is meant to be an icebreaker. Come show off your characters, their costumes, and biographies as we rapid-fire our alts and show the community what we have to offer for stories, supergroups and one-shot roleplays; share your love for the game with us!

Any alignment is welcome, it's Pocket D after all, and it encourages you to show a variety of your characters and what each can offer potential new friends!

Wanna make a Legion of Doom? A hero academy? Avengers? Street-level heist squad? Arachnos loyalists? A circus of chaos? Talk about it! Pitch ideas and get conversations going.

So, if you're a roleplayer and want to meet new friends on Rebirth by all means pop on down! (And even if RP isn't your cup of tea any support for my event is welcome; PvErs and PvP lovers are also welcome if they wish to share their love of the game with us and chat!)

Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you in-game! :)

Looking for Group / Rikti Dropship Takedown
« Last post by Joshex on October 06, 2023, 04:43:43 pm »
Saturday the 23rd of december is the date!
9PM GMT-5 (NewYork) time is the time!

In order to make this work we will plan a LGTF ahead of this event and the invasion it spawns will be our target. we will try to finish the LGTF at a specified time. we will be doing this the week starting 12/18 because LGTF is the weekly strike target!

On the day this will happen This will be scheduled as 2 events

#lgtf
and
#gm

We will add 5 events to the !e next list in EventHerald
1: some prior good day we'll hold some atlas park safeguard missions to get people the flight power
2: on yet another prior day we'll hold some VILLAIN side Atlas Park Mayhem missions, just in case that's where you want to get your flight power(though the drop ships will be blueside)
3: during the first week of the winter event we'll schedule events to get candycanes to get the golden rings temp power (likely tons of winter lord runs)
4: the pre-invasion LGTFs AS MANY AS WE CAN GET GOING SIMULTANEOUSLY
5: the post LGTF Dropship assault

it is my opinion we should have at least 2 teams do the LGTFs simultaneously and watch the clock to complete at the same time, so we have 2 invasions drop to maximize the chances of getting a an invasion in a good long zone.

What you'll need; either, hover, fly or a jetpack that can be used in combat, ///WARNING///Hoverboards and magic carpets will not work!///.

We will need a league of at least 2 full teams.

We will need SLOWS, HOLDS, and IMMOBILIZE, it has a slow resist that stops it from going to a full stop, the slowest we can drop it to is roughly 14mph

We will need damage.

ALL levels welcome.

We're looking for Invasions in LONG zones, such as Peregrine Island, Steel Canyon, Skyway City, Talos Island, Crey's Folley, Independence Port.

We need to Assemble and Wait at the War Wall where the ships will  be coming in! NO FIGHTING RIKTI ON THE GROUND AND NO BOMBS everyone focuses on 1 Ship as a league!.

Bring INSPS for yourself. Suggested; Reds Yellows and Blues. for squishies Purples, Oranges and Greens.

Temp Powers Welcomed.

///WARNING
Remember, Ground based powers such as summon:fields will not work as theres no where to cast them in the air. Summons will not be able to reach them, so unless you have groupfly your pets wont be able to help (so provide whatever attacks you've got). Some Self TP powers don't work while flying, such as Electric Melee: Lightning Rod.

Watch your Endurance!

from what I remember anti-fly doesn't work on them so we cannot ground them. or maybe we just need a ton of antifly like mag 10000

Squishies keep distance and use ranged, Solids (Joke) use taunt or provoke to hold the ships fire only as you are able!.
///

When one ship goes down we hit another!

What do you/we need to do ahead of time:

Before the LGTF you will need to obtain a combat type flight power, there are several ways to do this:
1: you can buy one if you are L20 in Siren's Call, or L40and go to the shadow shard
2: you can get one as a reward for completing the Atlas Park Safeguard mission, or if you were a villain or rouge recently you could do the Atlas Park mayhem mission.
3: you can get the Holiday Jetpack during the winter event.
4: you can make a second build with Hover or Fly
5: you can follow someone who has Group Fly (by getting Aerobatics and Fly) MMs and pets users will NEED to have a build like this for dropships. please make this build ahead of time it can be with normal enhancement or IOs you don't have to kill yourself on sets.
6: you can be a peacebringer or warshade
7: there is a Jet Pack Temp Power that can be crafted you can get the recipe from other players, from drops or buy it on AH if available.
8: if you are a villain or rogue there are several missions you can do through flashbacks to get a jetpack.
8.1: Lt Chalmer's in Sharkhead Isle will give you a mission  "Help the Skyraiders fight off longbow", there is nothing in the wiki saying this mission cannot be Ouroed.
8.2: Marshal Brass offers the mission "Steal a Goldbrickers Rocket pack" which grants you a rocket pack. this is not available via Ouro!.

every attending player should have a hold, even if it's just the dayjob power
you can get HOLD type powers by:
1: you can get the Ranged TAoE Hold: Tear Gas dayjob power by logging off in a police station and a vault till you get the dayjob badges, then log off again to earn charges.
2: during the winter holiday event you can get the Golden Rings Temp Power from the candy keeper, Ranged Foe Hold.
3: you can get a hold if you are a controller or dominator, some other ATs may have holds as well, like blaster.

sadly there are no craftable Hold type powers
sadly there are no hold type powers in power pools
sadly the hold type powers in other temp powers are limited use and no refill.

update: this event is in planning tentatively for december, because we'll do better with the golden rings temp power. no date has been set because I'll likely need to lead or take part in an LGTF which is min level 45, I still have 3 contacts in the L40 to L44 range. getting there slowly.

It WILL NOT be in the first week of christmas content! this is to avoid interfering with people getting the winter event out of their system. we'll aim for the second or third weekend of the winter event but NOT christmas week, just in case!

A psychic at birth who had spent her early childhood at an orphanage until she reached twelve, when Lord Recluse was in need of more psychic children to bolster the ranks of his Bane Spiders or Fortunatas. Demetrius Stephens, a ruthless Bane Spider soldier loyal to Lord Recluse, pillaged the orphanage and killed its people to the last child, especially the caregivers who worked with the children in that orphanage. All of them except for Mirabelle, since Demetrius and his squad were here for her since she was a children born with psychic abilities. Fortunately for Mirabelle, the local heroine who had psychic abilities just like her drove the Arachnos forces away.

Under the heroine's care, Mirabelle was taken to Paragon City and lived peacefully with her adoptive mother until she was old enough to join the countless heroes in charge of protecting Earth from the evil organizations that threaten the peace and security. However, when Galaxy City was destroyed by a meteor attack, Mirabelle felt disillusioned as her heart darkened. She would soon turn from heroic duty to mercenary work and would eventually run away from Paragon City and end up in Grandville, turning herself in to Arachnos.

Accepting her voluntary involvement in joining Recluse's regime, she ended up in the Bane Spider network as an assassin. Although not fully accepted into the link like most of them, she proves herself to be a capable and loyal soldier who believes that only the strong should survive no matter the cost. With her expertise in infiltration and cold-blooded murder, she eliminates Arachnos's enemies without hesitation.

Character Bios / Re: Beast of a Thousand Torments
« Last post by RandomRabbit on September 25, 2023, 12:16:20 am »
Dial-A-Fiend

The name of Mercy Island was so ironic that it amused Bellindra.  The island was anything but.  She heard originally Arachnos would dump off abducted ne'er do wells in Darwin's landing and force them to fight through snakes Hellions and Skulls to make it up to the upper areas.  Darwin's Landing was an apt name for it, for the social Darwinism Arachnos engaged it.  Bellindra was sipping on a bloody Mary from Larry's Tiki Bar, an establishment in the upper areas of Mercy.  It was a run down looking place, but at least it wasn't the ruins down below.  Despite the run down appearance she rather liked the Tiki Ambience.  But her concentration was more on the lad before her.  Mid-tone skin, short cut hair, wearing a T-Shirt with some game emblem she didn't recognize.  The locals simply called him J and he was good at hooking people up with electronics.  "So this phone should be clean.  Using this won't get traced like some of the standard fare you'd buy around here.  No tracking software.  This is the cellphone number.  Do you want me to show you how to dial again?"

Bellindra Nodded, the boy was hesitant to work for someone looking at devilish as her, but she could tell he had worked with a few freakish sorts before in Mercy and by keeping a pleasant demeanor she was able to keep him cooperative.  More flies with honey then vinegar and all that.  Sometimes being nice was the easiest way.  That's when the call came from behind her, back towards the door, "At last I found you!"  It was a rather beefy man hefting an axe, "Bellindra, the Beast of a Thousand Torments, I have come to send you back from whence you came."

He purposefully strode down towards her Bellindra held up a hand, gesturing a stop, "Wait, can we do this outside please."

The man stopped, laying his axe over his armored shoulder his brow furrowed beneath his wild brown locks and his square jawed mouth turned to the side in thought, clearly taken aback at the lack of aggression in the reply, "Why?"

Bellindra gestured to the occupants, "There are people here, the staff are terrified.  And there is a lot of furniture that can be damaged.  I rather like the Bloody Marys here and I'd rather they continue serving me."

The man nodded, seeming to agree with the plea to limit collateral damage, "Fine, you shall face me in the street."  He walked back out.

Bellindra looked to the kid, "Sorry Jay I'm going to deal with this quick and then I'll get back to you."  She walked away from him and the table, towards the door.  She barely noticed the two men dressed in grey going by until one of them rudely bumped her in the shoulder, pushing right past her.  They had skull masks which clearly spoke of their gang affiliation.  They were both carrying baseball bats.

Bellindra glanced at the two men approaching Jay, she saw Jay's face go pale as the Skulls approached him, "Took us a while to find you, squirt, you think you could do business in our turf like that without paying the fee?"

Bellindra scowled, "HEY!  That kid's my tech support.  Hands off if you want to keep them."

The Skulls turned about, glowering at Bellindra through their masks, "Stay out of this Hellion bitch!  We'll clip those wings later!"

Bellindra had no patience for this with a quick gesture she snapped a whip of hellfire that hadn't existed until this very moment at the left Skull's feet.  It snatched around his ankles and she gave a sharp tug, his arms flailed for balance as he was thrown on his back, his head connected with the heavy table Jay and Bellindra had been sitting at a moment earlier with a solid thud.  The man fell to the ground knocked unconscious.  The second man ran after Bellindra with his bat.  Bellindra ran for the door.  She burst out into the open, the axe-wielding man was watching the whole scuffle curiously from the street.  He didn't impede Bellindra as she spun around just in time to take a hit from a baseball bat.  The blow caught one of her horns, she rolled with it, there was a sharp pain where it her horn met her head but she had felt far worse.  She grasped on to the pain seeping through her mind and slung it back at her assailent in the form of a fiery punch.  He fell backwards to the ground, she was upon him in an instant, throwing him into a painful lock-hold.  She wasn't called the Beast of a Thousand Torments for nothing, this man was riff-raff, it was easy contorting his body into a highly painful hold leaving him crying out for mercy.  She hissed out, "I am no Hellion, I am Bellindra, the Beast of a Thousand Torments.  Harm that kid and you'll have an awful lot of cut-throats at your throat, including me, and I will kill you, and every instant of that death will be an agony you'll beg for me to hasten to the end."

She let him simmer in a couple beats of pain before she released him, tossing his bat aside.  The thug leapt to his feet and Bellindra made a start at him, bearing fangs.  The SKull lept back in a panic and sprinted off.  Bellindra laughed and rubbed her horn where she took the hit before turning towards the would-be Demon hunter.  "So you wanted to dance?"

The man considered her a moment more, axe still balanced on his shoulder.  She could tell this man was not going to be an easy fight, and the thought just left her more eager to fight him.  She knew it would be a good fight.  "You didn't have to protect the kid."

She stretched her arms and her wings, "Sometimes being nice is the most pragmatic choice.  Are you going to fight me?"

Her shook his head, "You aren't the destructive fiend I was lead to believe you are.  I shall see what you do here.  You may call me Rogan, the Hunter"

She smirked, "Suit yourself.  Fighting with or fighting against you look like fun."

General Suggestions and Feedback / New Pool Suggestions
« Last post by Joshex on September 24, 2023, 08:08:52 pm »
I know we just got new pools, such as utility belt and experimentation. it's time then to think about whats next, because making it will likely be a long job.

each pool has a theme, usually a combination of different things that other pools don't have ( so as not to make another pool's power redundant)

My suggestion is a "ninja arts" pool (your basic ninja arts) it's really hard to limit it to 5 powers.
starting level 4 selections are:
lv4 : Throw Shuriken Ranged, Minor Damage Lethal
lv4 : Substitution Jutsu, Targeted Aoe: Foe Placate, Summon Destructible Object, self +stealth(15seconds)
--must have chosen one of the above to select below--
lv14 : Taijutsu (toggle) +Run Speed, +Jump height, +Def(AoE, Melee, Ranged)
lv14 : Genjutsu, Targeted AoE, Foe blind, Foe Placate, foe Confuse, Moderate DoT Psionic
--must have 2 powers in pool to select below--
lv20 : Clone [summon clone] Endcost: 50, recharge moderate (can cast multiple times for multiple clones), clones: 10%% Your HP, 50 End, access to copies of 2 unenhanced versions of random powers from your primary and/or secondary, plus Throw Shuriken.

most of this pool is designed for squishies to cast when they need to run away.

Alternative powers I was going to include were, Throw Kunai (but we might not have the graphic), Caltrops, and Smokebomb(PbAoE minor dot Fire/Smashing, foe choke, foe blind (-perception))

Taijutsu was pulled from blaster secondary ninjitsu: Shinobi
An Alternate for Substitution jutsu, is to blind all enemies, placate, then TP the targeted enemy to you, hold them, and confuse the rest. thus they'll attack the held enemy and wonder where you've gone. naturally +stealth for the player so they can run away while the enemies defeat one of their own. I actually rather like this alternate, because it could be used to force arachnos to attack their Mu guardians and fortunatas, make malta attack the sappers, make tsoo attack healers, and make CoT earth mages cast quicksand on their own. but thinking about it technically this can be achieved with Substitution followed by Genjutsu.

Add other suggestions below.
